I Don’t Know What I’m Doing
2 minute read
Growth happens by doing, not by planning. If you’re always waiting to be ready, you’ll never accomplish anything.
Call it imposter syndrome, a lack of confidence, or just being human—whatever you name it, I don’t think I’m alone in feeling like I don’t know what I’m doing most of the time. There are days when I look around and think, “How did I get here?” The truth is, I got here by continually putting one foot in front of the other, and you can too.
Often, people wait for permission to pursue their goals, or they wait for the right time to ask for that promotion, raise, or new opportunity. From my experience, I’ve learned that waiting is a luxury you can’t afford if you want to make real progress. I’ve had to ask for everything I’ve worked for and maintain a relentless focus on what’s in front of me. It’s not about comparing myself to how fast others are climbing the corporate ladder or how much they’re making. Instead, it’s about staying focused on what I need and want to achieve and sustain the life I’m building.
I make long-term goals and break them down into manageable, bite-sized pieces that I tackle day by day. It’s a bit like working out—you don’t see results overnight, and no one’s going to hand you a six-pack of abs. It requires endurance and persistence to pick yourself up each day and keep moving forward toward what you want.
If you ever look at someone with admiration and think, “They have it all together,” remember: they probably don’t feel that way at all. And who knows, you might be that person to someone else!
One tool that has helped me immensely is vision boarding. It’s a powerful way to visualize your goals and keep yourself motivated. If you’re interested in learning more about how vision boards can help you on your journey, check out my blog post on that topic.
Remember, you don’t need to have it all figured out to make progress. Embrace the uncertainty, keep moving forward, and trust that the journey will take you where you need to go.
