On a Personal Note…

Thank you for being here. If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve visited this site before - I appreciate your patronage!
The other day, it was brought to my attention that I hadn't properly introduced myself. I started this site because I am deeply passionate about this corner of the professional world and I have a lot to say! My goal is to provide valuable content that equips you with actionable insights for your career.
I didn’t even know what it meant to “work in HR” by the time I was already doing it. Early in my tenure, my mentor asked me what my career goals were and I had no idea. I was just going about my days hoping I was making an impact somewhere. I spent time researching and recognized the work I was doing fell under something called “human resources”. Once I realized this, I couldn't be stopped. I absorbed as much knowledge as possible through formal education, on-the-job experience and volunteer activities.
Over the years, I discovered that the expertise I gained was not only beneficial to me personally as an HR professional but was also helpful to the individuals that I worked with as well as other professionals I met along the way. At work, the ability to create a safe space for people to come talk about everything from their goals, challenges, fears, difficult situations, personal highs and lows and all that is in between has been the honor and joy of my career. I have spent a lot of time building relationships with those that I work with and sharing lessons that I’ve learned along the way that have helped them propel their careers forward.
In talking to family and friends in various professions, I learned Human Resources has a less-than-stellar reputation within the general population. I thought everyone was BFFs with their HR professionals!!? I know this may sound obvious to you, but it was like I traveled from BarbieLand into the RealWorld and learned that Patriarchy did not mean horses. Can you believe there are people who actually work places where they don’t know their HR Manager?! You’re telling me you don’t use your HR specialist as a pseudo work psychologist? I am aghast.
I am on a quest to provide an alternative perspective on HR and demonstrate how leveraging HR expertise can propel your career forward. I want to be your cheerleader, your coach, your trusted advisor - guiding you through different work scenarios, offering alternative viewpoints and perhaps teaching you a thing or two, or three, along the way. I’ve spent my career doing just that for all the wonderful people I’ve had the pleasure of working with throughout the years and now I want to do that for YOU!
The thing is.. I’m still figuring this out. Is this a blog? A business? A space where I can scream into the void for fun and hope someone listens? Who knows. For now, consider me your elder millennial guide into all things ‘people’ at work. Welcome!
XOXO,
Your Friendly HR Gossip Girl
